Read Mountain Hike at Read Mountain Preserve is one of the County's largest passive recreation areas according to Roanoke County Website. The 243 acres are preserved by conservation easements with the Virginia Outdoors Foundation and the Blue Ridge Land Conservancy. Read Mountain Trail is an easy to moderate trail with an overlook facing Northwest towards the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport.

Read Mountain Trail Parking is located in a subdivision behind the Wal-mart on US 220. It closes at night so it's important to get out of there before the gate closes.

Read Mountain Preserve is the 243 acre conservation on Read Mountain and is where the trail system is located going throughout Read Mountain and up to Buzzard Rock. It is also set to expand it's hiking trails according to Roanoke.com.

Buzzard Rock is a short spur trail near the top of Read Mountain and overlooks Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport (ROA) and the city of Cloverdale, Va.
